No. 2 Tarrel Farm Cottages is a renovated farm cottage situated within open farmland two miles from the idyllic coastal village of Portmahomack on the Tarbat Peninsular in Easter Ross.There are spectacular views of both the Dornoch and Moray Firths from the cottage.

The cottage sleeps 4-6 people. I double, I twin and double sofa bed. It is comfortably furnished and well equipped and has everything you need to enjoy a tranquil and relaxing stay in this most beautiful Highland location. The property has  * star self-catering award from VisitScotland and the owners are members of the Scottish Self-Caterers.(both applied for)

The seaside village of Portmahomack with its sandy beach, crystal clear water and old harbour wall is a popular holiday destination. It has the highly thought of Oystercatcher restaurant for fine dining, a pub that serves lunches and evening meals and two cafes, all of which serve locally sourced produce. There is also an exciting refurbishment of the waterfront Caledonian Hotel currently in progress. The village has a shop/PO, the Tarbat Discovery Centre and  9 hole golf course. The Tarbat Lighthouse is situated within a nature reserve at the end of the peninsular. 

Nearby is Tain, a larger town with all the shops and facilities you might need and one of the oldest Royal Burghs in Scotland. It has its own links golf course and the Glenmorangie Distillery which does free tasting tours. Across the firth is the cathedral town of Dornoch, famous for its Royal golf course, and Madonna's wedding! 

 

The  area is renowned for its low rainfall. Last year Portmahomack was twice as dry as Hampshire! Consequently, it does not suffer the west coast midges. Activities include, walking, mountain biking, bird watching, whale, dolphin and seal watching, fishing, sailing and golf.

 

Tarrel is the ideal place from which to explore and experience the magical atmosphere and beauty of the Highlands. It also has its own rocky beach a short walk from the cottage. (see below)
