Around Carlingford Lough

The lough extends about 25 kilometers from the city of Newry to Bellagan Point beyond the Port of Greenore,r unning roughly north-west to south-east. For most of the way the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland runs along its median line. The first eight kilometers from Newry consist of the tidal estuary of the Clanrye river. At Narrowwater, immediately below the house, it changes to sea lough. There is a deep navigable channel to Warrenpoint docks close to Narrowwater and small to medium-sized craft can sail all the way to Newry via the Ship Canal.
