Walking

This page is currently under construction.

North-west Sutherland offers a variety of walking routes from the tranquil to the spectacular.

Start gently with a walk along the length of beautiful Oldshoremore Beach from the car park to the black rocks.  Another day, stroll along the banks of the Rhiconich River to the boathouse at Garbet Beg.

Move on to the more challenging circular walk around Ben Stack, or pack a day's picnic and head for remote, mysterious Sandwood Bay, where the rock stack Am Buachaille (the Shepherd) keeps a lonely watch over the pristine sands.

For the experienced hillwalker Ben Stack, Arkle, Foinaven, Cranstackie and Ben Spionnaidh are waiting to be climbed.

Not to be missed beaches:

  • Oldshoremore, Kinlochbervie
  • Sandwood, Kinlochbervie
  • Polin, Kinlochbervie
  • Sheigra, Kinlochbervie
  • Balnakeil, Durness
  • Sango Sands, Durness
  • Ceannabeinne, Durness

If you plan to climb one of the mountains, please make sure someone (e.g. the local police officer) knows where you are and when you intend to return.  The police station is located next to the flat and its phone number is 01971 521222.
